History and Overview
In preparation for the Susan B. Anthony small-sized dollar coinage, thousands of clad-metal “tokens” were made at the Mint, the weight and diameter of an Anthony dollar, and with 11 sides to the inner rim. The central areas consisted simply of raised machine-turned areas. These were given to makers of coin-detection devices and vending machines to test their utility and application.
