About This Series

The Patterns (1976) series of Pattern Coinage in the U.S. Coins contains 4 distinct entries.

History and Overview

After designs were selected for the 1776–1976 Bicentennial quarter dollar, half dollar, and dollar, impressions were made from Proof dies that lacked the S mintmark used on regular Proofs. These pieces are all unconfirmed, with the exception of J-2164. It is said that at least three impressions of each were made. One set is known to have been destroyed.
