The Southern People’s Bank (SOU) was formed in Hepo, Jiexi County, Guangdong Province (then the Dongjiang communist base area) on 8 July 1949 from a merger of the Dian Kian Gui Bianky Moujigy (B28401), the Yu Ming Bank of Kiangsi (B71401), and the Hsin Liu Bank (not known to have issued banknotes).
In late 1949, the Southern People’s Bank was subsumed into the People’s Bank of China (B4001).
