The Shape of Things to Come in U.S. Coinage

Called Freedom Ringing, two gold coins, a one-half ounce and a one-ounce, and a one-half ounce silver medal in shape of the Liberty Bell will be available at noon on July 16.

The gold coins will sell for $10,050 for the half-ounce and $19,600 for the gold one-ounce. The silver medal will be offered at $750.

The idea of Liberty Bell-shaped products was first brought to light in 2024. The Commission of Fine Arts and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee reviewed designs presented by U.S. Mint design staff. While the program had not been approved by then Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the Mint sought to complete the design process in the event the program was approved. The design recommendations were made during the November 19, 2024 meeting of the CCAC.

"The Liberty Bell has long stood as a symbol of freedom and equality in many forms to many Americans, but none more so than the revolutionary fight for sovereignty that led to the birth of the United States. Years of planning and innovation have culminated in this unique coin honoring the Liberty Bell’s timeless message of hope and perseverance as inscribed upon the bell, to "Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof," said the U.S. Mint press release announcing the program.

The gold coins are identical on the obverse with the inscription of "Liberty", date, mintmark, designer’s initials and IN GOD WE TRUST and similar on the reverse with the exception of the denomination and weight. The reverse also contains UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the designer’s initials with fireworks over Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, home of the Liberty Bell. The silver medal offers the inscription of "Liberty" along with the mintmark and designer’s initial on the front. The back of the medal features the Independence Hall scene beneath UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with the dual date below.

The U.S. Mint will enhance the celebration of the semiquincentennial by offering coins and medals in the shape of the Liberty Bell. Consumers have two options for the gold coins, one-half ounce or one-ounce. A one-half ounce silver medal will also be available.
