The Netherlands Trading Society series of China Foreign Banks in the World Currency contains 18 distinct entries.
The Netherlands Trading Society (NTS) was established in 1824, diversified into banking in 1870, and opened a branch in Hong Kong in 1889. Its sole China office opened in 1903 on Shanghai’s Bund. At all times the circulation of Netherlands Trading Society dollar notes was small, Dutch law requiring substantial reserves for paper money issues. In 1964, it merged with the Algemene Bank Nederland.
