Struck from an entirely different die pair than the previous coin, the Kagin-6 is readily identifiable due to the large, deeply impressed beaded border found on both sides of the coin. In late 1831, Bechtler would alter this obverse die with the addition of the weight, “75.G.”, resulting in the Kagin-8 variety. For many years, only six coarsely beaded Bechtler $2 1/2s were known; however, the 2024 census acknowledges a total of ten distinct pieces, eight of which are available to collectors. Most are XF or AU, with two pieces graded mint state by the third-party grading services.
