1994-S Silver Proof Set Cent-Half Dollar PR 5 Coins Values
Details
Original Packaging: A two-piece, transparent plastic casing with frosted borders held a black fiberboard insert containing holes for the coins. Printed on this insert was the word “Silver” in silver script. The assembled set was slipped into a black cardboard box upon which the words “United States Mint Silver Proof Set • 1994” were printed in silver script.
Commentary: It appears that a pattern of sales had already developed by 1994, with the mintage of this year’s set fairly similar to that of the 1993 offering. The level of interest shown in these coins at the time clearly did not give any indication of their later popularity.
The Premier Proof set saw its sales decline to just 149,320 units. The coins in that set are duplicates of those in the $21 set, so it is only the packaging that is unique. As many collectors are inclined to seek coins that have been broken out of their original packaging and certified by third-party grading services, the market for specially packaged products of the U.S. Mint is currently limited. Should the emphasis ever change, these distinctive packaging options may prove to be quite scarce.
