The Prestige Proof Set program ran inconsistently from 1983 to 1997 with a one or two commemorative coins added to the regular proof sets of the year. The 1990 Prestige Proof set included the handsome silver dollar honoring the centennial of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s birth. Some 506,126 sets were sold at $45 apiece, these higher than usual sales reflecting both the popularity of the subject matter and the attractiveness of the coin itself.
