1942-S Half Dollar MS Values
Details
The 1942-S is tougher than most 1940’s Walkers as a gem. They are accessible in Mint State up to and including MS66, with MS67’s being very rare and much more valuable. Major warning that the strikes for this date are very weak with rare strongly struck pieces bringing premiums. Liberty’s left hand is almost certain to lack complete detail. Although quality white luster is not a problem for this date.
This coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $26.44
Obverse: Liberty portrayed standing on a rock, facing left, with flowing robes and her right hand outstretched with a star-covered drapery flowing behind her. I bright sun, with extended rays is rising from the horizon on the lower left. The word LIBERTY frames the periphery and date appears at the bottom center. and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is in the right field.
Reverse: A large eagle perched on a rock, facing left with wings elevated in a defensive posture. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR appear on the periphery. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM sits atop a small olive branch left of the eagle. The mintmark is small, and placed below the olive branch near the left rim.
