1919-D Half Dollar MS Values
Details
The 1919-D is one of the most notable and rare key dates in the Walking Liberty Half Dollar Series. Common in only the most poor grades, the 1919-D is much tougher to find as it reaches AU and truly rare in Mint State. As a gem it becomes an incredible six-figure rarity in MS65 and MS66. Unfortunately, finding a high grade example of these A-grade gems is a challenge as they are prone to luster and toning that lack eye appeal. In addition, they are weakly struck, appearing flat and mushy, vertically, in the center of Liberty.
Obverse: Liberty portrayed standing on a rock, facing left, with flowing robes and her right hand outstretched with a star-covered drapery flowing behind her. I bright sun, with extended rays is rising from the horizon on the lower left. The word LIBERTY frames the periphery and date appears at the bottom center. and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is in the right field.
Reverse: A large eagle perched on a rock, facing left with wings elevated in a defensive posture. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR appear on the periphery. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM sits atop a small olive branch left of the eagle. The mintmark is small, and placed below the olive branch near the left rim.
