1879 $4 Stella. The Small Head variation is not widely differentiated in the literature and is often grouped with the varieties listed above.
Obverse: “Flowing Hair, Small Head.” Style as J-1636 to J-1637a, but of reduced design. Head slightly smaller, tip of neck near 1 (1879).
Reverse: At the center is a large five-pointed star with the incuse inscription ONE STELLA / 400 CENTS; around is E PLURIBUS UNUM. DEO EST GLORIA; at the border is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / FOUR DOL.
