1849 Mormon $2.50 gold MS K-1 Values

Details

Around 3,000 Mormon $2 1/2s were struck in 1849. Today, there are around 50 pieces in private hands, most of which grade XF or AU. Around a half dozen examples have survived in mint state, with a single choice uncirculated example acknowledged as finest known. The dies used to strike these pieces appear to have been improperly hardened and sank relatively early in their working life, resulting in central design weakness on many of the surviving examples.
