On 14 March 1863, the Gobierno Superior Politico (Supreme Political Government) of José Antonio Paez authorized the emission of banknotes for the Provincia de Guayana (Guayana Province, PDG), then part of the Republica de Venezuela, which later became the Estados Unidos de Venezuela.
