The Bank of Otago series of New Zealand in the World Currency contains 0 distinct entries.
Hoping to profit from the recent discovery of gold in Otago, plus New Zealand’s booming wool exports, on 27 April 1863, the Bank of Otago Limited (BOO) was incorporated with its headquarters in London. In December 1863, the Bank of Otago Act was passed by the House of Representatives at Auckland. Shortly thereafter, a colonial headquarters was opened in Dunedin, with branches following at Invercargill (1864), Port Chalmers (1864), Balclutha (1864), Riverton (1865), and Oamaru (1866). Still later branches would be opened in Cardrona, Palmerston, Queenstown, Switzers (Waikaia), Taieri (Outram), Tokomairiro (Milton), and Winton. The Bank of Otago Limited is not associated with the Otago Banking Company which failed in 1852.
