1958 Doubled Die Obverse One Cent MS BN FS-101 Values

Details

The 1958 doubled die obverse Lincoln cent is one of the rarest varieties of the 20th century, with only three known examples. Doubling is evident with the naked eye in the date, inscription LIBERTY, and in the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. In March 2018, a PCGS-graded MS64RD example garnered a whopping $336,000 at auction. In January 2023, GreatCollections sold the finest known example -- PCGS/CAC MS66 RD -- for $1.136 million, the most ever realized for a Lincoln cent, and the first Lincoln to break $1 million at auction.

Obverse: Bust of Abraham Lincoln framed by IN GOD WE TRUST on the top periphery. The word LIBERTY to the left of the portrait and the date and mintmark (If any) positioned on the right side.

Reverse: Wheat ears flanking the words ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on the top perimeter.
