Unlike S-mint Lincoln cents of a decade or so earlier, the 1939-S Lincoln cent is a common coin in all grades through MS66 and generally offers excellent strike and color to boot. Registry set collectors vie for the best of the MS67-level examples which represent among the very best one could expect in terms of grade and quality for the 1939-S Lincoln cent.
Obverse Description
Bust of Abraham Lincoln framed by IN GOD WE TRUST on the top periphery. The word LIBERTY to the left of the portrait and the date and mintmark (If any) positioned on the right side.
Reverse Description
Wheat ears flanking the words ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on the top perimeter.
