1935 Doubled Die Reverse Nickel MS FS-801 Values

Details

The 1935 doubled die reverse Buffalo nickel has a claim to fame as being the most significant reverse doubled die variety in the series. Doubling is most prominent in the words FIVE CENTS. This piece is certainly a rare coin, with very few survivors in uncirculated condition. Most are encountered in the circulated grades. While there are a few hundred or so examples in circulated condition, there are likely fewer than three dozen in the uncirculated grades and only a tiny handful in the Gem grades.

Obverse: James Earle Fraser's famous and simple design depicts a Native American chief with the word LIBERTY from 1-2 o'clock. The date is placed on the lower left of the chieftain's bust.

Reverse: A full portrait of the bison, Black Diamond, with the words UNITED STATES oF AMERICA at the top periphery with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM just underneath. The denomination FIVE CENTS is spelled out at the bottom. For the Type 1, the denomination is embossed on a flat surface.
