1914-D Nickel MS Values
Details
The 1914-D Buffalo nickel is among the scarcer mintmarked issues in the series, with only 3,912,000 struck and just about 8,000 known examples across the grading spectrum. This semi-key coin is sought after in all grades, with even circulated examples proving scarce. While it was not common for collectors to save early mintmarked Buffalo nickels, there are more than 1,000 such known examples. A decent number of Gems are available, though the coin is fairly difficult to locate in MS66 or above.
Obverse: James Earle Fraser's famous and simple design depicts a Native American chief with the word LIBERTY from 1-2 o'clock. The date is placed on the lower left of the chieftain's bust.
Reverse: A full portrait of the bison, Black Diamond, with the words UNITED STATES oF AMERICA at the top periphery with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM just underneath. The denomination FIVE CENTS is spelled out at the bottom. For the Type 1, the denomination is embossed on a flat surface.
