1879 “Washlady” Quarter Dollar. The reverse of this and the preceding are loosely styled after certain pattern eagles found on 1879 gold denominations. The Washlady name dates to the April 1891 Doughty sale.
Obverse: Charles E. Barber’s Society Lady (popularly called Washlady) design. IN GOD WE TRUST above, seven stars left, six stars right, date 1879 below.
Reverse: Perched eagle holding olive branch (with seven leaves) and three arrows (passing behind the wing). E PLURIBUS UNUM in arc above. Around border, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / QUAR DOLLAR.
