Details

1879 Metric $20. So-called “Quintuple” Stella.

Obverse: Liberty Head motif (designed by James B. Longacre) is surrounded by the legend *30*G*1.5*S*35*C*35*G*R*A*MS* with the date below.

Reverse: The reverse features a heraldic eagle bearing a shield on its breast and carrying an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Bracketing the eagle is a banner with the motto E PLURIBUS / UNUM; above, the legend DEO EST GLORIA is enclosed in an oval of 13 stars, with rays emanating above. Around the perimeter are the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and TWENTY DOLLARS.
