Various foreign currencies were used in the Knjazevina Srbija
(Principality of Serbia, POS) until the middle of the 1800s when Prince Miloš Obrenović ordered the creation of a national currency, the Serbian dinar, with the first bronze coins minted in 1868, and banknotes printed, but not issued, in 1876.
