The Junta de Vigilancia (Supervisory Board, VIG) was a commission of bankers and businessmen appointed to administer a new system of “cheque circulars” that functioned as banknotes secured by gold reserves at Banco del Perú y Londres, Banco Italiano, Banco Internacional del Perú, Banco Popular del Perú, Banco Alemán Transatlántico, and Caja de Ahorros de Lima.
