In 1921, the Canadian Bank of Commerce (CBC) opened branches in Kingston, Jamaica; Bridgetown, Barbados; and Port of Spain, Trinidad. It issued large-size notes for exclusive use in British West Indies territories.

In August 1921, the Canadian Bank of Commerce was given permission to issue £100,000 worth of notes in Jamaica (1 pound sterling = $4.80, or $1 = 4 shillings and 2 pence).
