The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Bank Markazi Iran (Central Bank of Iran) series of Iran in the World Currency contains 378 distinct entries with CPG® values between $1.00 and $5,000.00.
On 28 May 1960, the Iranian legislature approved the creation of Bank Markazi Iran as the nation’s central bank with note-issuing authority assumed from Bank Melli Iran, which continued its commercial banking activities. For many years, the transliterated bank name (Bank Markazi Iran) appeared on the back of its notes, but eventually this was replaced by the English translation (Central Bank of Iran).
