The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Bank of Ethiopia series of Ethiopia in the World Currency contains 28 distinct entries with CPG® values between $20.00 and $14,000.00.
In 1931, Emperor Haile Selassie I formally requested that the international community use the name Ethiopia (as it had already been known internally for at least 1600 years) instead of Abyssinia. That same year, Ethiopia purchased the Bank of Abyssinia branch from the Bank of Egypt for 235,000 pounds, changed its name to the Bank of Ethiopia (BOE), which opened for business on 1 July 1931. The bank closed at the onset of the Second Italo-Abyssinian War and Italian occupation (1936 - 1941).
