The Japanese Imperial Army invaded Xiamen (Amoy) by amphibious assault in September 1938. The Xiamen Special Municipality Government (XSM) was a Japanese-puppet city government, established in 1939. Its currency circulated for less than a year due to a lack of acceptance by the populace. Only low denomination fen issues are known.
