The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Government of Ceylon series of Ceylon in the World Currency contains 281 distinct entries with CPG® values between $2.50 and $11,900.00.
Following the failure of the Oriental Bank Corporation on 3 May 1884, the Government of Ceylon (GOV) guaranteed its note issue to avoid a financial panic. The government subsequently established the Ceylon Currency Board by Ordinance No. 32 of 1884, and began issuing notes in 1885. All notes from previous issuers were retired and the private banks lost their right to issue notes. After 31 March 1885, Oriental Bank Corporation notes ceased to be legal tender.
