Details

Kagin-31 is a U.S. Mint-made proof-only striking of the 141-grain, 20-carat Augustus Bechtler obverse die, paired with the C. Bechtler RUTHERF: reverse die. It is generally referred to as a restrike, although the Bechtlers never struck any coins from this die pair, technically making the issue a fantasy piece. It is believed that a total of 15 were struck, with the finest being a gem proof.
