2024 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Medal MS Silver, 230 Privy Values
Details
The 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Silver Medal pays homage to the Flowing Hair dollar coin, issued on October 15, 1794, by the U.S. Federal Government as America’s first dollar coin. Under the guidance of Mint Director David Rittenhouse, Mint Chief Engraver Robert Scot designed the first silver dollar coin with government oversight of the process.
The medal is a tribute to the first Flowing Hair dollar, with modern reproductions of the original obverse and reverse designs.
In addition, 1,794 of the medals will contain a “230” privy mark, and 230 of those privy- marked medals will include a certificate of authenticity signed by United States Mint Director Ventris C. Gibson.
This coin is made of Silver and has a current melt value of $84.20
Obverse: The obverse is a faithful rendition of the first dollar struck by the United States Federal Government. The obverse presents the original 1794 dollar with an updated “2024” date and retains the “LIBERTY” inscription. The portrait of Liberty faces right and is surrounded by 15 stars, representing the fifteen states that had ratified the Constitution by 1794.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a laurel wreath surrounding an eagle with spread wings in the center, an early predecessor of the American heraldic eagle.
