1909 $2.50 Gold MS Values

Details

The 1909 Indian Quarter Eagle is a bit scarce overall but nothing to get excited over. Gem examples are around but they do take some working searching for. If one is found expect very high quality surfaces with a crisp strike and not much weakness to speak of. This issue is so nice and satiny that their overall look is comparable to its proof counterpart which is quite a compliment. The finest grade for this issue is at the MS66 level but for somewhat of a visual those coins have even better features and looks than the MS67's from 1908.

Obverse: The obverse features the portrait of a Native American chieftain in formal headdress struck incuse with the words LIBERTY at the top and the date at the bottom. 13 stars frame the left and right sides: 6 at left and 7 on the right.

Reverse: The traditional American eagle struck incuse in the center with the words, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at top, E PLURIBUS UNUM left of the eagle, and IN GOD WE TRUST to the right of the eagle. The denomination 2 1/2 DOLLARS struck below the eagle.
