1908 $2.50 Gold MS Values

Details

The 1908 Quarter Eagle is the first year of issue for the Indian design is may be the absolute most common. In most grades up to and even including gem MS65 the 1908 compares in rarity to many of the highest mintage coins from the series. This date is quite easy to find in most grades with only a minor rarity and value jump to MS66. The only true scarce examples of this coin are those finest known pieces in MS67 holders. This is nearly a perfect type coin issue because of how easy and relatively affordable it can be to acquire very pleasing mint state examples. The satiny obverse of the 1908 has a very solid strike but there are some drawbacks. The eagle of course on the reverse is underdeveloped in spots and the surfaces lack in luster and the coloring is not overly yellow and attractive.

Obverse: The obverse features the portrait of a Native American chieftain in formal headdress struck incuse with the words LIBERTY at the top and the date at the bottom. 13 stars frame the left and right sides: 6 at left and 7 on the right.

Reverse: The traditional American eagle struck incuse in the center with the words, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA at top, E PLURIBUS UNUM left of the eagle, and IN GOD WE TRUST to the right of the eagle. The denomination 2 1/2 DOLLARS struck below the eagle.
