1860 Transitional Half Dime MS Obverse of 1859 Values
Details
Obverse design of 1859 with the reverse design of 1860. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA do not appear on the coin anywhere which is extremely unusual. The coin is usually considered a pattern design but widely collected by specialists of the series.
Obverse: Lady Liberty is seated on a rock, holding a staff, and bearing a shield with the word LIBERTY on a flowing ribbon. 13 stars have adorn the periphery and the date appears at the bottom center.
Reverse: The words HALF DIME are centered and surrounded by a wreath tied by ribbon and bow at the bottom with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears at bottom center under the bow.
