1857 $2.50. Obverse die varieties exist. One reverse die trial known.
Obverse: Head of Liberty facing left, coronet inscribed LIBERTY, essentially the same style as later used on the regular nickel three-cent pieces of 1865. 13 stars around, date 1857 below (same die used to strike J-186 with a cent reverse).
Reverse: Eagle at the center, wings outstretched, shield on breast, holding olive branch and three arrows. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / 2 1/2 D around border.
