1870 Trime. Made in quantity as a numismatic curiosity, the obverse apparently being intended for the Standard Silver five-cent piece of this year, and the reverse being a slightly mismatched (in terms of diameter) trime die.
Obverse Description
Barber’s Liberty Seated design, with figure seated, facing left, with her right hand supporting a shield, liberty cap on pole behind, and with an olive branch in her left hand. UNITED STATES to left, OF AMERICA to right, date 1870 below.
Reverse Description
Regular die used to coin silver three-cent pieces.
