The Bank of Zambia (BOZ) was established to take over from the Bank of Northern Rhodesia on 7 August 1964, although its Act was not passed until June 1965. The Bank of Northern Rhodesia was itself constituted from the Lusaka branch of the Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland after it broke up during the dissolution of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland on 31 December 1963.
