The Patterns (1808) series of Pattern Coinage in the U.S. Coins contains 0 distinct entries.
History and Overview
Patterns of 1808 are private restrikes made in the 1860s or later from dies discarded by the Mint as scrap metal. These dies existed into the 20th century, and may exist now, but information concerning their restriking is not known.
Collecting Perspective
These private restrikes come on the market at widely spaced intervals and are desirable for what they are. The surfaces of the coins are rough due to rust on the dies.
