$25 platinum American Eagles contain a quarter ounce of pure platinum and were struck from 1997 through 2008. These quarter ounce platinum coins carry an obverse design by John Mercanti depicting a closeup of the Statue of Liberty?s head and crown, while the original reverse designed by Thomas D. Rogers carries the likeness of a flying American eagle. From 1998 through 2008, a new reverse design was employed each year on the proofs while the original Rogers design continued on uncirculated specimens for the duration of the series? run.

Regular uncirculated $25 platinum eagles from the Philadelphia Mint are generally common, though the three burnished issues struck at the West Point Mint were made in much smaller numbers and are considerably scarce.
