The 1984-W $10 gold commemorative honoring the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles became the first gold coin issued by the United States Mint since 1933, when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued Executive Order 6102, which ended production of gold coinage in the United States.
