About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the National Bank Notes First Charter Period series of Large Size National Bank Notes in the U.S. Currency contains 107 distinct entries with CPG® values between $0.20 and $360,000.00.
Large-size national bank notes were first issued in 1863 and used across all 48 states as well as the national territories of Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. They were typically backed by United States bonds and issued in a variety of denominations ranging from $1 to $1,000.

Most of the large national bank notes are quite artistic in the aesthetic sense, with beautiful, intricate designs. Earlier notes display the issuing bank?s name. Also, each of the large-size notes bears two serial numbers, with one the Treasury serial number indicating the total number of notes within that series and denomination issued across all banks, and the other a serial number providing a total number of notes for that series and denomination from that given bank.
