On 5 January 1885, the government authorized the creation of the nation’s second bank, the Banco Particular del Salvador by Jamaican José Maurice Duke, Francisco Camacho, and others. It was granted a 25-year concession and was headquartered in San Salvador. The bank never issued notes under its own name (only one 5-peso essay dated 189_ is known), and had tried to reach an agreement with the Banco Internacional del Salvador to use its notes. On 12 December 1891, the Banco Particular del Salvador changed its name to the Banco Salvadoreño and began issuing its own notes soon thereafter. It subsequently merged with the Banco Internacional del Salvador on 11 May 1898, and the Banco de Centro America y Londres on 30 May 1902.
