Following the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War on 17 July 1936, the Consell General de les Valls d’Andorra (Catalan: General Council of the Valls d’Andorra, CGVA) issued Decree No 112 of 19 December 1936, authorizing the issuance of paper money backed by Spanish banknotes.
