Values / World Currency / Saint Pierre and Miquelon

Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a self-governing territorial overseas collectivity of France, situated on a tiny archipelago in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean, south of the Canadian island of Newfoundland. With a historical population numbering in the low thousands, it is the only remnant of the former colonial empire of New France that remains under French control. The island of Saint Pierre was named after Saint Peter, the patron saint of fishermen, due to the local economy’s reliance on the cod fishing industry.
