Values / World Currency / Puerto Rico

Currently an unincorporated territory of the United States, Puerto Rico (rich port), is a Caribbean archipelago consisting of the islands of Culebra, Mona, Puerto Rico (originally known as San Juan Bautista), and Vieques. Puerto Rico was first settled by a succession of indigenous peoples before being colonized by Spain following the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1493; it remained a Spanish possession for the next four centuries. Following the Spanish-American War (21 April - 13 August 1898), Spain ceded Puerto Rico—along with Guam and the Philippines—to the United States in the Treaty of Paris.
