Mercury Dime Set No Varieties 10 Cents MS FB 77 Coins

Details

A basic Mercury dime set comprises all 77 regular-issue business strikes, including the 1916-D, 1921, and 1921-D Mercury dimes, all with Full Bands details. This is perhaps the most popular Mercury dime set among both registry set collectors and those who are assembling circulated sets. However, it is an extremely challenging set to build with Full Bands details on every coin, as several issues are conditionally rare with this full detail in the crossbands on the fasces. By definition of this being a basic set, it excludes any of the non-regular issue varieties that have been identified by numismatists, including the 1942/1, 1942-1-D, and 1945 Micro S, three coins that are found in the 80-coin complete set.

Obverse: Winged Liberty, or Mercury (the Roman god of commerce), is depicted facing left with LIBERTY spelled around the periphery. IN GOD WE TRUST appears left of the neck and the date is positioned just below the bust around 5 o'clock. The designer's initials "AW" appear to the right of the neck.

Reverse: A large torch is centered vertically adorned with an axe head and olive branches. UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN * ONE DIME * is spelled out around the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears near the bottom rim left of the torch.
