1998-S Close AM One Cent PR RD CAM Values
Details
The 1998-S Close AM proof Lincoln cent was accidentally struck with a business-strike die, which at that time ordinarily exhibited the letters A and M of the word AMERICA virtually touching each other at their bases. Fewer than 100 examples of this variety are known, and due to scarce supplies and high demand, examples easily command hundreds and sometimes even thousands of dollars. A similar error was created the following year, when some 1999-S proof cents were produced using a 1999 business-strike reverse die.
Obverse: Bust of Abraham Lincoln framed by IN GOD WE TRUST on the top periphery. The word LIBERTY to the left of the portait and the date postioned on the right side.
Reverse: Lincoln memorial building centered with words ONE CENT, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on top and bottom periphery. E PLURIBUS UNUM centered above the top of the memorial.
