1980-S/S Repunched Mintmark One Dollar PR DCAM FS-501 Values
Details
The possible remnants of a previously punched S appear left of the primary S. Although this has been listed as an S Over S, there is speculation in the collecting community that it’s actually a damaged or rusted die. Very few examples of this variety have surfaced. Whatever this variety is, it has proven to be rare. No verified sales have been confirmed, although one private sale of three coins has been reported. All known pieces are Deep Cameo.
Obverse: Portrait of Susan B. Anthony, facing right, surrounded by 13 stars with LIBERTY centered on top, and the date at the bottom. Mint mark, if any, is located off SBA's right shoulder.
Reverse: A flying eagle, clutching olive branches, appears to be landing on the cratered moon, with the earth seen in the background. 13 stars surround the design with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR framing the periphery.
