Obverse: At the center, a small national coat of arms depicting the eagle in profile to the left, with stylized, leaf-like feathers and very large feet; the arms are enclosed in a circle formed by a spray of oak and laurel below and the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above. Surrounding all, ! DIEZ PESOS ! and the weight, date, and fineness: 28.888 G ! 1960 ! LEY .900. The mintmark M is to the left of the snake in the coat of arms.
Reverse: Busts of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla and Francisco Madero, with HIDALGO and MADERO, respectively, in small letters below the busts. Legend ! INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD ! and SUFRAGIO EFECTIVO NO REELECCION. Above the portraits, the date; to the left of the portraits, 1810; to the right, 1910.
