1938-S Texas Half dollar MS Values

Details

The 1938 Texas halves represent the last year of this commemorative type, first issued in 1934 to honor the centennial of Texas independence from Mexico in 1836. This popular coin was designed by Pompeo Coppini and includes -- variety of design elements, including an eagle and five-pointed star on the obverse and on the reverse images of the goddess Victory, the Alamo, and small bust portraits of Texas founders Sam Houston and Stephen Austin.

Issued for $2 apiece or for $6 in the three-piece set including the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco issues, 1938 Texas half dollars are somewhat scarcer than any of the preceding Texas halves made since 1934. However, the vast majority of 1938 Texas half dollars are in nice uncirculated grades ranging from MS62 through MS66. Examples grading MS67 are scarce, while only -- handful of specimens are known in MS68 or higher grades, and these quite rare.

Obverse: Features an eagle before a five-pointed star, referencing the Texas Lone Star symbol.

Reverse: The reverse showcases several design elements, including the winged goddess Victory, cameo portraits of Texas Republic founders General Sam Houston and Stephen Austin, and the famous Alamo.
