1922 Grant with Star Half dollar SP Values

Details

Most 1922 Grant half dollars don't have a large star on the right obverse field. But, a relatively small number of issues do have one. What is the star for? Theories suggest the idea was to create a rarer variety for collectors to pursue, but the official origin story for Grant with Star half dollar is unknown. The Grant with Star half dollar, designed by Laura Gardin Fraser to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Ulysses S. Grant, the solider who became the nation's 18th president, has been recognized as a key coin in the traditional commemorative series for many decades.

The 1922 Grant with Star half dollar is rare in all grades and particularly so in the Gem grades, with strike issues in Grant's hair and marks in the obverse field often proving most troublesome. MS66s are very rare and pieces grading MS67 or higher are elusive. While it is difficult to find super high-grade 1922 Grant with Star half dollars, those that exist often look quite decent and offer excellent luster.
