The S mintmark for San Francisco was repunched northwest of the first S impression. This 1909-S die variety takes its place among other repunched mintmarks of the early 1900s, including Barber dimes, quarters, and half dollars.

Reverse: An eagle is portrayed in the center atop an American shield with 13 stars. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is written around the periphery with the date at the bottom.
